Iris’ Shanila Dress (aka “Super Iris”, or “Vanilla Iris”) was developped by Gaëlle “Galou” Autin and Bénédicite Ciaravino.
Here was their first design (Line by Bene and Color by Galou), and then some photo we took when they draw the model sheet.
What was fun about this design was they both created it part after part, then put all the pieces together and assembled it like some ikea furniture. :) Except no one had the instruction manual.
You can see that the design didn’t evolved much from the first sketch. :) The hair went up, we added the crystal circles around them, but most of it was already good.

First of all : I promise I will finish Inktober (maybe in December or January) but I’ve had such hard times these days, it’s been impossible for me to find some time to draw for myself. Hope it will get better soon.
Just wanted to share Lyna’s transformation here, as the final version has finally been released this week. I’ve storyboarded it 3 years ago now (wow) and now that I see it again, I wanna change everything haha! But, anyway, here it is. Hope you enjoy it. See you soon ;)

Enjoy this new transformation sequence, storyboard by Christelle “Happykuri” Abgrall, like the previous transformations.
As you can see, it’s quite different from our three main princess : main reasons were that we didn’t want to repeat the exact same pattern (’cause it’s boring), and couldn’t anyway (for production issues, we had to make shorter transformations).
Lyna and Carissa are new princesses, but different from Iris, Talia and Auriana : they won’t live at Aunt Ellen’s house, and will only appear on some episodes (budget & writing issues, once again), helping the three main princesses when necessary.
So, for their transformations, Christelle took her inspiration from the “outer senshis” from Sailor Moon (mainly Sailor Uranus and Neptune), but I guess that’s pretty obvious. ;)

Ok, initialy I wanted to go through each episode before reaching this one (the 19th)… but I’m late, there are a lot of questions about it, so you all win : Time for one of the most important episodes of season 1. Today, we’ll tell you all about the Shanila !
What’s “Shanila” ?
It’s a very important moment, for every girl able to use magic on Ephedia. And obviously it includes all our magical princesses ! Indeed, Shanila is a phase of transition : when a girl magical powers are strong enough, she reaches the Shanila. It means her powers have matured enough to grow even more ! You can see it as a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly. Magically speaking.
In the process, the girl loses most of her hair, and her magic is a mess for some time until she learns to master it again : when it happens, her hair suddenly grows back, and her magic is stronger than it ever was.
How old were Talia and Auriana when they went through their Shanila ?
Both of them were about 12 years old, and both of them were considered “early Shanilas” : Talia was working very hard, so her magic was already pretty strong at this time, and Auriana’s naturally skilled to the point she reached Shanila quite easily.
Wait… but you said Talia was 8 years old when Xeris was destroyed, so ?…
So what happened to Talia after the events of “Xeris” ? We don’t have the full details, but it seems she was protected by other Xerin nobles, and remained hidden in Xeris for a while, out of Gramorr’s sight. That was when she reached her Shanila.
Seems like she was a little embarrassed with her hairstyle at that time though. ;)
Are the girls near Auriana her sisters ?
Who knows ?… She’s supposed to have a whole bunch of sisters, so… maybe ?
Did Praxina go through Shanila ?
Probably, yes, even though she never talks about it. And Mephisto won’t tell a word either…
What about boys ? Mephisto ? Lev ? … Gramorr ? Did they have Shanila too ?
Well, I’m afraid we have no intel about it.
Maybe they have their own version of Shanila ?…
Or maybe they don’t have anything at all, and it would explain why the most powerful caster on Ephedia are usually girls… ?
In LoliRock’s world, boys are stuck with whatever magic they have, and relies on devices, tricks and stuff, rather than raw power (like, for instance, Praxina or Iris)
Is Iris’ Shanila special ? Do all girls awaken super-powers like her ?
Haha. I won’t tell you everything here. ;)
Let’s just say Iris is special, as being the heir princess of Ephedia. She IS really powerful, and has the biggest potential : for her to go through “Shanila” awakens a part of her true powers… but she can’t use them at will, obviously.
Other girls don’t usually go through this much display of raw magical power… at the very least, Talia and Auriana didn’t… but who knows ? Maybe with the right circumstances, they could have a “Shanila Dress” too ? Never underestimate a girl’s potential.
Will we see Shanila-Iris again ?

Why didn’t you show Iris and Nathaniel kiss ? And are they officially together now ?
Well, there are still some people who feels you can’t show a kiss in a kid’s show… so we couldn’t at this… Maybe in season 2 we’ll be luckier ?… (and by the way, we were able to show that kiss in the comic book adaptation of this episode ! Hahaha ! REVENGE !!!)
And as for Iris and Nathaniel, even though it’s their second kiss, (and first real kiss, since the previous one was kind of an accident) they’re still as shy as ever, and never spoke of it again afterward. So, nope, still not a couple…
