Hey, long time no see lolirockers!
Some member of the team linked me this amazing video above. Thank you so much for the time you took to make this review! :)

So I though, what about giving everyone a few news from our side?

Well, it’s already been a few years since the last episode of season 2 aired. Since then the series was aired in a lot of places, Netflix included, and we were happy to see that a lot of people love it and would love a season 3. I certainly would love that to.

So will it happen next? We thought, for a time, that our producer would quickly launch a season 3 to keep the team and such… but it didn’t happen. We had a lot of productions issues, and simply finishing season 2 was hard and expensive enough. I guess the producers were not really willing to produce more episodes at that time, and I can’t say I blame them.

Now, in 2020, I have no clues anymore to be honest. :) The whole team disbanded a long time ago, and we’re all working on other projects, for other studios.

So none of us know if Zodiak Kids (the animation studio who holds LoliRock’s rights) wants to make another show or not. All I know is that LoliRock was a very complex and expensive show to produce and animate (Ask the former animators!), and it is hard to raise enough budget for this kind of projects in France, especially right now… so it might simply not be that easy to do.

Well, I really hope that one day we’ll be able to tell the rest of the story we wrote back then with Jean-Louis Vandestoc… Until this time comes, keep enjoying the first two seasons, and have fun creating your own sequel. ;) Fanfictions are fun that way.

Have a nice day everyone. Thank you again for loving LoliRock!

S01.E13 - Batty

Written by Rhonda Smiley, Storyboard by Fanny Marseau & Thomas Astruc, Cover by Gaëlle “Galou” Autin

This episode was a pretty cool one : besides the new haircuts and outfits for most of our crew, we also had a guest artist working on it : the second half of the episode was storyboarded by Thomas Astruc, director of Miraculous ! Thomas also helped us to correct and rewrite most of the script. Not that we asked for him to do it : he just couldn’t stop himself… which brought me tons of additional work to manage the recording of all the new lines he changed. ;)

Fun fact : on a first version of Thomas’ board, Iris and Praxina’s fight was much more kung-fu / martial arts oriented (Miraculous style). Unfortunately, for various reason, we couldn’t keep it as it was, and had to change it, which was kinda sad.

Anyway, it was a really nice collaboration, and a part of why we consider Miraculous and LoliRock to be “cousins shows” : a lot of people of the staff worked on both projects at some point.

Bellow are a few sheets and posings from this episode.

Character Posings (From S01E12 “No Thanks for the Memories”)

“No thanks for the memories” was a complicated episode to create. In the first draft, Iris only lost her memories and was manipulated by Mephisto and Praxina, but there was no “Dark Iris” transformation or whatever.

It was at storyboard stage that we felt the episode was messy and confusing. We had to remove tons of things, and the storyboard supervisor had to reboard it almost entirely. Not that this is our greatest episode ever, but at least it’s now enjoyable in its own way.

As a reminder, here’s the post with Dark Iris model sheet.

Fun fact : when we completed Dark Iris color sheet, we loved it so much that we promised ourselves to create opportunities for a Dark Auriana and a Dark Talia in season 2. :)

Rose, Belina and Olivia Model Sheets (From S01E11 “Step Right Up”)

Here are the designs of our three favourite orphans : Rose (a.k.a “Lil Iris”), Belina (a.k.a “Lil Talia”) and Olivia (a.k.a “Lil Auriana”). It was kind of fun creating these three characters, and making the three of them different from their “favourite LoliRock”.

Ah, and as a bonus, the model sheet of Talia without her jacket and shoes, as it was asked a few times. :)

This episode was the first one to be storyboarded by Anaïs “Noon” Chevillard, who’ll also storyboard episodes 15 “Stitches”, 24 “Smart”, and in second season episode 24 “Forget You” and music video 10 “Never Give Up”.

Magical Posings (From S01E09 “A Promise is a Promise”)

Hey, turns out there are a lot of very cool posings in this episode !

Fun fact : Initialy, none of the character was supposed to have a “weapon”. They were supposed to have only “wands” and cast spells with them, and have “long range / wizard battles”, like the one in the first episodes. That’s when our storyboard artist team came in the loop, and though it would be cooler. And it was ! But also harder to animate and thus a little more expensive to create, so as usual, that’s why we had to refrain from doing it too much. Once in a while is good though, don’t you think ? ;)

As for Auriana, well, yeah no sword for her. She already had her ribbon/whip wand, and we didn’t feel she’d need more or that it would work with her personality.
