Why in the last series of LoliRock has not changed the hair color? Or The Efedia is not their home planet?)

I believe it’s because they’re stuck in their civilian form(?)

In the beginning, Gramorr did something to the necklace, ring and bracelet making them unable to transform until they were fixed. Right? XD

Gramorr broke the crystals in their transformation pieces which is why they couldn’t go magical girl; the magic from the Queen’s crown fixed them; their natural hai. colors seem to be up in the air; when we see young auri and talia their hair is never red or brown, but iris has blonde as a bby; so maybe at a certain age it turns or maybe they have earth disguises and got stuck in them? maybe @teamlolirock can give a better answer than i can tho

Ok, let’s solve this mystery. :)

Basically, the hair color is linked to the magic. On a magical land like Ephedia, magic is everywhere, it’s in the air. That’s why people there have different color than on earth. However, on Earth (a place without magic) the “magical” color quickly fade away : Auriana’s color goes from bright orange to red, and Talia’s color darken from light blue to brown.

As for Iris, as a baby, her hair is blond because she’s just a baby, but if she had grown on Ephedia, no doubt they would have become pink very quickly. (So, yeah, you can imagine Baby-Talia with brown colored hair and Baby-Auriana with Red colored hair)

When princesses transform, it boost their magic and powers, as explained in the the first episode. Their magic is strong enough to alter the color of the hair.

Now, during the events of “Home / Final Season” all princesses’ magical jewels are broken, meaning they can’t transform or use their most powerful spells : their magic power is overall decreased. However, it only block their transformation. If any of our princesses were to stay long enough on Ephedia, their hair color would gradually switch to the magical one. The hair lenght however would remain the same, as only the transformations make them grow. ;)

Now, let’s be honest about the order we proceeded : we WANTED a color change for our characters, from casual to magical. :) That was our beginning. Everything above was written afterward, mostly at the same time as we storyboarded the Xeris episode. We asked ourselves “How do we proceed ? Talia will be a kid, but she’ll be on Ephedia ? Should we give her brown or her blue hair ?”.

We decided the blue hair would feel more magical (and pretty), and that giving different air color would create a good constrast between Earth and Ephedia. Then, as Jean-Louis (and I) like things to be consistent in the universe, we wrote these “rules” about hair color, and when they should change / not change, and tried to stick with them from that point.

The Elements in LoliRock?

curegrimoire:

It is just an observation, but I think the princesses represents the four classic elements.

Aurianna- related to moon and stars, which are light bringers can allude fire.

Talia-her symbol is a diamond and her theme is blue so she can represent water.

Lyna- She uses levitation and flight, tells me right off the bat that she might represent air.

Carissa- uses magic when in direct contact with her fist. She uses hand to hand combat with magic and is seen crushing huge rocks with her powers so she can be earth.

Iris- is the fifth element quintessence, capable to uniting all four elements and provide life. The very manifestation of energy.

Another interesting note is that it somehow follows Sailor Moon though not exactly. the blue(sailor Mercury) and red/orange (Sailor Mars) comes to aid the princess (Sailor Moon) in the first few episodes. Then they were soon joined by a green one (Sailor Jupiter) and the last member (this time violent). This is justan observation, heck if LoliRock continues to rock our world we might as well get 10 princesses :)

Eh, that’s a very interesting theory. :)

Truth is, Jean-Louis Vandestoc indeed thought of each girl as an element, quite like you describe above (except that Iris would be referred as “Light/Holy” element, as opposed to Gramorr’s “Dark” element).

But that’s not all : when thinking of our princesses, his other reference was chess ! Now, each princess does not correspond to each piece, but it was more a philosophical reference : in chess, each piece has its skills and specific use : the knight can’t do the same things as the tower, etc. Yet, you need to use properly all the pieces to win the game. He wanted the princesses to complete each other this way.

As a reminder, we gave specialties to our princesses at the start of the show :

Auriana (and the Voltan people) is the best when it comes to defense with very strong shields. Talia (and the Xerin people) is a tactician and uses elaborate skill to trick the opponent rather than pure power. Iris (as the princess of Ephedia, and like other Ephedian people) is on the other hand more offensive and powerful than any other princesses, but somehow lack control and need to learn a lot of skills : she needs help from the others.

Now, it’s not really always obvious in the show, and clearly depends on the episodes, but having a team was Jean-Louis’s intention.

The Ephedian Runic Symbols

Hi LoliRock fans. It was requested we release the ephedian symbols we use in the show (for backgrounds, books, spells, etc).

“Does it have a meaning ?” Well, no. It’s not a real “alphabet”, even though there is 26 symbols. To be honest, we thought of hiding messages, but were in such a rush to produce the show that we didn’t make it in the end…

These symbols were created by Jean-Louis Vandestoc himself, and his main references was the scandinavian runic alphabet.

PS : I’ve been asked a lot of things regarding the spells and magic system in LoliRock. Since it’s an important point, I’ll talk more about it future posts. ;)

usagi-cri asked:

I showed my friend Lolirock and he had a question that I can't answer. Was the band named Lolirock as a pun on "lollipop", as in candy?

I’m not sure, but I don’t think so. If I recall correctly, we moved from “Lolipop” to “LoliRock” precisely because “Lolipop” was to close to “Lollipop”… even though the musical style of the princesses it closer to “pop” than “rock”.

Now, changing the name while doing the project happens often : before LoliPop/LoliRock, we were supposed to be “Pretty Pop” (but it was too close to “Pretty Cure”), and even before that we should have been “Star Princesses” (but we couldn’t keep this name) and at the very very beginning it was “Ice Angels” (it was back in an earlier development of the project, when the girls were supposed to “ice skate”, instead of “singing”.)

See ? Lots of tries and evolutions before coming to LoliRock. ;)

LoliRock - Music and Magic questions

I started off not sure whether to watch the show at first. But when I saw the first episode, it was really interesting. This girl having singing powers. Seeing Iris babysitting and the objects flying. Her being unable to control things when she sung.
Singing powers she had all her life, but getting stronger not long before she sung before Auriana and Talia.
Talia said to use her singing when she was cornered by Mephisto and Praxina. Talia mentioned she will help her use it in the future. (Something like that)

Then suddenly after that, the band is formed and Iris has perfect control of her singing powers. Singing powers never used ever again!

I don’t really get that at all.

Hi, here’s a very interesting post that we thought deserved an answer. :)

1) About the magic being linked to music

Indeed, at the start of the show, we wanted to link our princesses’ power with music and singing. Unfortunately, the “crystal” aspect was favored over the “musical” aspect, and except for episodes #01 and #05 (”Sing for Me” / “Une voix magique”), this aspect pretty much disappeared in the scripts, with great regrets on our own side too. (Just talk about it with Galou or Bertrand, and you’ll see how frustrated we were. ;))

I guess we’ll use this kind of magic/music in a different show, but not LoliRock unfortunately… :)

2) About Iris being a master of magic too quick.

Now, you’re not the only one who thought the band was very quickly formed, and that Iris became powerful too quick. And we agree with that. Believe us, if we could have written episodes on Iris’ first steps at learning magic, the first concerts of LoliRock, showing the three princesses struggling to make music together, etc, then we would have ! There are still great stories to be told : how Talia and Auriana moved in, Iris discovering the Battle Arena and the Magical Training room for the first time, etc.

However, as we wrote in previous posts, one of our broadcaster’s demand was that episodes could be aired in disorder (save for the first and last one). Giving a feeling of progression became very hard to put into the show. We tried to put it with little hints : you’ll notice that Iris is mostly less confident in magic during the first half of the season than the second half… We made sure she learned some key spells, little by little, going through “Shanila” (it was a key point in her progression) and even create her own spell by the end of the season. (I’ll get back to this point very soon, as it’s part of the questions we received about the season finale episodes). So here we are. It’s not perfect, agreed, but we tried.

I hope this answers your frustration. Again, sorry we couldn’t show you what you expected. That said, we still hope you’ll like the serie as it is. ;) And who knows ? Maybe we’ll be able to tell all these stories one day…

Regarding the season finale…

Don’t worry, no spoiler in this post. ;) With Jean-Louis (co-creator and director of the show), we just wanted to thank all the people that told us they loved the final two parter of season 1. :) We’re glad you dit.

Since last week, I’ve been receiving a lot of your questions and remarks (from tumblr, tweeter, facebook, etc…). I’m not ignoring them, but I can’t answer yet. We’re waiting for the french episodes to be released with the volume 3 of DVD & iTunes, by the end of this month. Until then, I’ll just ask for a little more patience, we’ll answer everything at the same time.

We’ll talk more about these episodes afterward, about what’s to be expected in season 2, and we even plan to let you have a chat with Jean-Louis directly (probably in November) to talk about all of that. ;) So stay tuned, and thank you again for following us and loving our show !

winx4eva asked:

Has season 1 finished in French? If so, when do you think we will see the rest of season 1 in the English Dub? (Sorry for the questions, I am just wondering since I see clips of a Halloween episode and others floating around)

No, only 13 episodes of season one were currently broadcasted in France. More episodes are available from iTunes (including the Halloween one). We have no news regarding the broadcast of new episodes in France.

New episodes will probably be broadcasted first on other languages and channels, such as Disney Channel in Spain.

Will there be dolls or any other toys in the future? ^^

We know there are figurines being created, through a parnership with Quick (a mostly french fast-food brand). Don’t know yet when they’ll be released however. Guess you should follow LoliRock’s french facebook account for that. ;)

Regarding dolls, we (at the production team) have no clues. That sure would be cool !
